Connie Zoet

Running For Treasurer

Speech

My name is Connie Zoet and I am running for Treasurer

It has been a privilege and a pleasure to be the Treasurer for the ETFO Durham OT Local since the summer of 2020. When I took on the role, I brought a lot of enthusiasm and desire to do an excellent job on behalf of the members, which is good because there was a lot to learn, especially as it was decided to bring the entire process in house!

Over the past four years I have learned to use the QuickBooks Online program to record all the financial transactions of the Local. To support that process I have attended Treasurer conferences (a few of which our Local hosted), established a network of OT Treasurers to call on for advice and support, oversaw our investments and made it a goal to prepare and submit our financial records to the auditor by mid August in order that the final statement could be sent to ETFO Provincial ahead of the September 30 deadline each year.

This year, I developed a comprehensive outline document to support the recording of financial transactions which provides accuracy and transparency to how the Local’s money is spent and how it is tracked. This document will become part of the Policy and Procedures Manual which the current Executive is preparing.

In this election I ask, again, for your support in order that I may continue the work of being the Local’s Treasurer. If elected, I will continue to bring honesty, accuracy, transparency and integrity to this role in the 2024-2026 term.

I thank you for your support and confidence in me as your Treasurer and look forward to serving as your treasurer on the next Executive!

Bio

After retiring from my permanent teaching career, I joined the ETFO Durham OT Local as an occasional teacher.  As I had a strong interest in the Union, I ran to be on the Executive and have served in a number of roles over the years.

Much of my work with the Local was in building the Professional Learning Program.  Most recently I have worked as the Local’s Treasurer.

I balance my work life with a busy family life that includes travel with my husband and friends, spending time with grandkids, leisure reading, and dabbling in art work and writing.

It is always a pleasure meeting colleagues at the Local’s many professional and social events.  I am proud to be a member of the Local’s dedicated and supportive Executive and hope to continue to be able to serve as the Local’s Treasurer for the 2024 – 2026 term.
