My name is Heather Gillette and I am running for Member at Large:
I have been an OT with the local since 2008. During that time, I have been involved in the local in some way. I took many of the Professional Learning sessions that were offered, attended social events and built relationships within the local executive and with members. I am currently the PL Chair for the local and very much enjoy being able to bring PL events to you. I am always willing to listen to new ideas and find ways to incorporate them into my daily teaching assignments and into making the local’s professional learning the best that it can be. I have been a member at large within the local executive for the last 2 years and I enjoy attending meetings, listening and voting on items to make the local work best for the members. I am also in charge of the Professional Learning Fund we currently have, which gives funding to help members recoup some of their out-of-pocket expenses for things like AQ courses. I am also a part of the social committee and have often been tasked with planning games and entertainment for the many events our Social Chair puts together. I have been an OT for many years and have experienced every type of classroom and assignment. I am an advocate for all OTs, new and established, I know our collective bargaining rights and will continue to make sure others know these rights also. I enjoy meeting new faces, talking to fellow OTs and helping out in any way I can. Please vote for me for Member at Large so I can continue to be a part of the local and all it has to offer.
Bio
My teaching journey began in 2006 when I graduated from teachers’ college in Glasgow, Scotland. After I returned home, I began volunteering at my old elementary school in Pickering. After I got on the supply list for the DDSB in 2008 I began supplying all over Durham. I have had 2 LTOs, gotten married and had 2 kids also during this time. I enjoy being an OT as it allows me to be a mom first and pursue other passions while still doing a job that is challenging but that I love. I am currently a member at large on our local executive and I am also on the social committee and the Professional Learning chair. I am always eager to meet new OTs through various events or daily teaching and truly hope I can continue to serve our members in my current roles for the next 2 years.
